Huge Barite Ball on Fluorite from Elmwood Mine (Ref: FB18-BGELM)
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Tennessee, USA
140mm x 122mm x 110mm
minID: LC4-DTV
$2600
Wow! What a beast this Elmwood specimen is! Here is we have a large barite ball sitting atop a huge, purple fluorite cube. The barite ball is about 9.1cm wide, and the fluorite cube is about 8.2cm wide. The fluorite cube is cleaved on the backside, so it's really a half-cube, and the interior is a white / clear fluorite. The purple is actually just an outer layer of fluorite that is about 1cm thick. Because of this, light travels through the specimen much more easily than it would if it were solid purple, so it lights up nicely with a backlight. The upper-left corner of the cube has an area with very little purple, so you can see a semi-clear yellowish zone there.Data last checked on 14th Sep 2021 - specimen may no longer be available
