Rhodochrosite on Sphalerite from Peru (Ref: DT21-RHODO)

This is a very unusual rhodochrosite specimen from Peru. Most Peruvian rhodochrosites are scalenohedral, but the crystals on this one look more like the rhombohedral forms you see in Colorado specimens. Additionally, the overal aesthetics of this are quite unique. The pink rhodochrosite crystals are surrounded by a white mineral (possibly dolomite), and that is heavily contrasted against the dark sphalerite matrix. The sphalerite looks black, but as you can see in some of the edge photos it has some orange translucency. Overall a really unique rhodochrosite specimen!
