Pyrite (Ref: ST445)
Merelani Hills, Arush Region, Tanzania
85mm x 75mm x 60mm
minID: JQE-86R
$2000
Large, complex, and COMPLETE single Pyrite crystal from the Merelani Tanzanite mines. Merelani produces a number of 'world's best' species, and when these Pyrites started coming out recently, an argument could be made that Pyrite from Merelani is also among the world's best for species. The large size, golden color, complex form combined with high luster make them spectacular. However most have dings and are contacted on the back side where they grew against Graphite. This one is exceptional as it is fully crystallized all around and nearly pristine. There is a small indentation on the lower backside where it attached to a mixture of Calcite and Graphite, but even the inside of the indentation is crystallized. There were hundreds to thousands of these found, but very few were this size, and of those I've never seen one this perfect. If you were waiting for the right one, this might be it.Data last checked on 25th Jun 2021 - specimen may no longer be available
