This is a Melanite Garnet from Unverhofft Gluck an der Achte Mine, Antonsthal, Breitenbrunn, Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany. A large, well formed lustrous, black melanite garnet crystal, measuring 2.6 cm in length, is perched on a matrix composed of much smaller, green garnets.
