Hemimorphite (unusual form, old mystery locale) (Ref: Exporting 2135 records
"AC-375")
Cuvella Mine, Nevada, United States
64mm x 22mm
$350
A very unusual, old specimen with a slender stalactitic form and mysterious provenance. The Schortmann's minerals label that comes with this specimen dates it to the early years of their world famous dealership, about 1940. At that time a $5.00 specimen was a very costly piece. This period was the beginning of their historic association with Ed Over and Arthur Montgomery. The locale listed is the Cuvella mine in Nevada, which is not a "known" location. Whats more, the form of this piece is not like any I have seen from any locale worldwide, much less Nevada. It is 360 degrees crystallized with a central hole, micros of Barite and zoned dark inclusions, it looks almost violet in some lighting. In excellent condition with no eye visible damage, an interesting and mysterious piece. The stock number is typical of pieces that they obtained from older institutional collections both in the US and in Europe, but the meaning of the code is lost. Whatever the locale this is a fine and interesting specimen!Data last checked on 20th Sep 2022 - specimen may no longer be available
